texture images

The most interesting thing about part one of the texture project was gaining the skill of capturing textures with pictures and other items. I never thought of things through texture before. I think the picture of the wall that I took was the best because it clearly captured an evident texture and I think it looked really cool. I think the most successful collage of mine was the monochromatic one with the bark, rocks, and wall because I took a different approach to it than I did to my other collages. Also, I like how I layered the different layers and faded them to give it a cool illusion. My favorite collage is also the monochromatic one. I'm going to use plaster for the bark, I'm going to smash up flowers and crumble them together to make one part of the wall, I'm going to use clay for the rocks, and for the other part of the wall, I'm going to crumble up paper and then paint it.

Color Project Reflection Questions

I did monochromatic blue, monochromatic red, analogous yellow, yellow-green, and green, and red and green complimentary. The piece of work that stands out to me the most is my analogous because I like how I experimented with the background and different brush strokes. I like how I used circular and straight brush strokes on each painting. I see expressive color usage in especially my monochromatic red painting because I really experimented with blending and mixing colors to come up with various shades of the same color.

Color Unit Reflection Questions

This project took me a while because of several absences due to tennis, but once I got the time to finish it, I got it done quickly. I got the hang of things on photoshop and color mixer after I completed the first one. In order to have success in this project, you had to take a lot of pictures including all of the color schemes needed in order to get the perfect picture that displays the colors correctly. Also, the video helped me to do the photoshop thing. Without the video, I would have struggled a lot and it would have taken me a long time. My observation of color changed a lot throughout this project: I didn't know how many different shades of one color existed.

Rayogram Reflection

I was drawn to rhythm and pattern in my rayogram. In my rayogram, my objects were all different styles of beaded necklaces. I intertwined them and lay them on top each other. The outermost necklace framed the rest of the necklaces because it lies on the outside, surrounding everything else. I only did one rayogram because I had a visitor, and I wanted him to do one, too. However, I am happy with my outcome and I think it is the best one I could've done. My favorite cut out collage that I did was the one with a white background because I like how it only includes organic shapes and I like the relative positions of them. I think it worked better than my other one with the black background because I think the objects flow better together and relate to each other more.

Steps to make a rayogram:
1. Get photo paper
2. Place photo paper on the developer and place objects on it
3. Focus the light
4. Set the timer for 8 seconds
5. Turn on the light and let the timer run for 8 seconds
6. Put the print in the developer for 1-2 minutes
7. Put the print in the Stop Bath for 30 seconds
8. Put the print in the Fixer for 2-5 minutes
9. Put the print in the water wash for 4 minutes
10. Put the print in the permawash for 30 seconds
11. Put the print back in the water wash for 4 minutes
12. Place the print on the drying rack

I think a habit of mind that I achieved in this print was envision. I envisioned what I wanted my print to look like, and I achieved it. I knew I wanted to do beaded necklaces all intertwined, so it wasn't very hard for me to set up my necklaces on the photo paper.  A habit that I struggled with was observe. I don't think I observed the purpose of my necklaces and the role they played on the photo paper.

Cut-Out Collage Write Up

I feel like the dominant element of my top piece was the groups that I put my objects in. I cut out many objects similar to each other, but instead of putting all the similar objects with one another, I separated them and put them in different spots on the black paper. Another reason this piece "worked" was because I had a mix of geometric and organic shapes and blended them together. I put this piece under the "rhythm" category because there are some shapes the reoccur often, such as the leaves, squiggly lines. and swirls.

I feel like the dominant element of my bottom piece was that the shapes I included were mirroring each other. The symmetry of this piece really worked because it balanced out between the location of the organic shapes and the colors - black on white paper. I put this piece under the "balance" category because of the balance provided by the shapes and their locations.

Habits of Mind Wire Project

A habit of mind that I did well during the wire project is develop craft. I learned how to use the tools in order to shape and work with the wire quickly and easily. This allowed me to explore different areas of wire and enhance my project. Another habit of mind that I did well during the project was envision. I envisioned how I wanted my snowboarder to look and what I wanted to include in it.
A habit of mind that I did not execute very well was reflect. I did not talk with others about my project, nor did I personally and mentally reflect on my project. Therefore, I just did what I did and didn't think twice about it.
